New Sandman Comic, Tablet Vs. Tablet, And Tribune Co Almost Out Of Chapter 11 In The News

First item in the news is actually from Comic-Con (but reported in the NY Times). Neil Gaiman is returning to comics and creating a new Sandman story. Vertigo will publish it in 2013 and J. H. Williams III will draw it. I think if it were possible to pre-order now, there would be thousands of comic book nerds (I include myself in that list) putting down their credit card information.

First the iPad. Next comes Nexus 7. Then comes Microsoft Surface. The tablet wars are continuing happily with the tech companies happy to feed our addictions to technology. Having just purchased the Galaxy Tab 2, I’m curious to see how mine stacks up against the others. Apple may try to shrink their device to compete, but it seems like the cool points go to them.

Tribune Co. is nearing the end of their Chapter 11 protection. There are still approvals and licenses to obtain, but it looks like they may be turning a corner after 3 1/2 years. Tribune’s creditors (J. P. Morgan Chase & Co., Oaktree Capital Management and Angelo, Gordon & Co.) will become the new owners and need to select six directors and a new chief executive to sit on the board. Tribune owns eight newspapers and a few local television stations. We’ll see how these events will effect their bigger papers, The Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times.
